Send on behalf of Deputy Principal (Services):
Dear students,
You may have read from the media reports that the number of cases of
Influenza A (H1N1-2009) infections has increased sharply recently.
Yesterday, it was reported in the newspapers that Republic Polytechnic has
to ask all first year students and some staff members to stay away for one
week because of 9 confirmed cases of H1N1 infection. It is very important
that all of us behave in a socially responsible manner and maintain a high
level of personal hygiene to slow the spread of this illness.
Temperature taking
When the new term begins on 29th June, you will be required to take a daily
temperature reading for 7 days starting from Monday, 29th June to Sunday,
5th July. For subsequent weeks, a temperature taking exercise will be
conducted every Monday.
As mentioned in my previous email, all the temperature records will be
entered on a class by class basis by your lecturer or class tutor from
Monday, 29th June to Friday 3rd July. Please take and note your temperature
before you come to campus each morning for one week starting from 29th
June. Give your temperature reading to your lecturer or class tutor. If you
are unwell or have a temperature higher than 38 degrees, you should see a
doctor and stay at home. If you are coming to campus on Saturday 4th July
or Sunday 5th July, you will need to take your temperature before coming to
campus. Please enter your temperature record in the STRES database.
You are reminded to bring your thermometer to campus each day. You will be
required to take your temperature before you are allowed to sit for your
mid-semester test.
Leave of Absence (LOA)
Please inform your personal tutor or school office if
(a) you have returned from any of the affected countries listed below, or
(b) you are sick with flu-like symptoms or flu-like illness or
(c) any member of your household is a confirmed H1N1 case unless you are
already on Home Quarantine Order.
You should stay at home and will be given a 7-day LOA. (The 7-day LOA
starts from the day of arrival in Singapore from an affected country). You
can access your lessons through e-learning. If you miss your assessment or
test, you will be given a make-up test or an exemption depending on your
school. Please check with your personal tutor. You will be subjected to
disciplinary action if you are found to make a false declaration or fail to
make a declaration.
Pandemic Preparedness Clinic (PPC)
If you have flu-like symptoms or flu-like illness (e.g. fever, cough,
sore-throat, runny nose), you are to seek medical attention from Pandemic
Preparedness Clinic (PPC) or call 993. The list of PPC can be found at the
MOH website.
List of affected countries
The affected countries are Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Dominican
Republic, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Spain, Thailand, UK, USA,
Indonesia and Hong Kong. Please refer to the MOH website for updates.
.
Once again, thank you for your cooperation and let us keep SP free of
infection.
Edward Quah
